Around is a lightweight video collaboration tool, an alternative to Zoom, designed for team collaboration like design sessions, brainstorms, and code reviews.

Beyond the hype, 2K upvotes on Product Hunt and 30K signups (and counting) in just a few days, Around is a beautifully crafted product, fueled by powerful features and delightful UI details. We quickly made the switch.

Start your call with the Slack command, and discover the simplicity of the UI app floating on your desktop. It’s an instant Wow effect.

And all starts with a simple 4-step onboarding flow.

Around User Onboarding: 4 Steps To Get Going

The Around onboarding flow is simple. Four steps to highlight one of its key features — the Slack integration, and to start a referral loop — invite at least 1 person to continue.

Lessons Learned

From this review, there are a few practices we can learn from.

  1. The onboarding flow is a great opportunity to start a referral loop. Endorse your users to invite team members.
  2. It should answer: “What should I know about your product? Anything I shouldn’t miss?”

Around introduces its Slack command.

Over to you, define what your killer feature is, and hint it in your FTUX.

On a side note, I *love* the headline on the Around homepage. “Zoom out.” A witty wink to its most-known alternative, as well as a bold statement.

One more thing

If your team values pixel-perfect design as much as the Around team, you should set your Dribbble account next to your social accounts.

For users, it’s one more proof that the product is built with care.
